Question Bank & Content
StudyDent has over 10,000 practice questions mapped to the UK BDS curriculum across more than 50 topic areas. Every question is reviewed for accuracy and paired with a detailed written explanation.
Topics include oral biology, pathology, pharmacology, radiology, clinical dentistry, head and neck anatomy, periodontology, dental materials, and many more. The question bank includes single-best-answer MCQs and extended matching questions (EMQs) in formats that mirror real BDS exams. New questions are added regularly as curricula evolve.
StudyDent covers 50+ topic areas spanning the full BDS curriculum: oral biology, general pathology, oral pathology, pharmacology, dental radiology, periodontology, dental materials, clinical dentistry, head and neck anatomy, human disease, medical emergencies, paediatric dentistry, orthodontics, restorative dentistry, oral surgery, prosthodontics, and more.
Every topic is curriculum-mapped to the UK BDS programme across all 16 dental schools. The question bank is designed to cover exactly what BDS exams assess, not generic medical content. Subjects like microbiology, biochemistry, histology, physiology, pain control, and patient management are also included across the question bank.
Yes. StudyDent includes radiograph interpretation practice questions and clinical scenario questions, two of the highest-yield areas in BDS written exams.
Radiograph questions cover periapical, bitewing, panoramic, and lateral cephalometric films. Clinical scenario questions test decision-making across prescribing, patient management, and clinical reasoning in a BDS context. The 3D anatomy atlas is also particularly useful for anatomy exam preparation, with clinically annotated structures covering nerve supply, blood supply, and surgical relevance.
StudyDent questions are written and reviewed by dental and science students who have sat the same BDS exams.
This is intentional. Every explanation is written the way a student would explain it to another student: clear, direct, and focused on exam-relevant reasoning rather than textbook-style prose. Questions are reviewed for accuracy before being added to the bank.
Yes. StudyDent is designed for Years 1-5 BDS. Early-year students benefit most from the oral biology, anatomy, pathology, pharmacology, and dental materials topics, all foundational pre-clinical subjects covered in Years 1 and 2.
When you sign up, you select your dental school and year. StudyDent uses this to prioritise questions relevant to where you are in your degree. The 3D anatomy atlas is especially useful for Year 1 and Year 2 anatomy modules, and the topic-level analytics help you identify weak areas early so you can address them before assessments.
Features
A fully interactive 3D model of the head and neck with 100+ individually selectable anatomical structures across 7 categories: bones, teeth, muscles, arteries, veins, glands, and cartilage. All clinically annotated for BDS exam relevance.
Each structure includes clinical notes, nerve supply, blood supply, and surgical relevance information. You can toggle entire categories on or off using layer controls. The atlas is designed specifically for BDS anatomy revision — both written papers and anatomy exam stations. It is accessible on the web app, and a mobile app version is coming with the iOS and Android apps.
Timed mock exams simulate real BDS exam conditions. You can filter by topic, set a time limit, and sit the exam in a distraction-free mode. After submission, you get a full performance breakdown.
Mock exams include both MCQ and EMQ formats. The adaptive difficulty system adjusts based on your past performance to focus the exam on your weaker areas. After each exam, you receive accuracy by topic, overall score, time per question, and a full review of every question with explanations. You can re-sit the same topic configuration to track improvement over time.
Native iOS and Android apps are coming soon. In the meantime, StudyDent works fully in mobile browsers. It is fast, responsive, and designed for studying on a phone.
Once the apps launch on the App Store and Google Play, they will include the full question bank, timed mock exams, the 3D anatomy atlas, and performance tracking. Full feature parity with the web app, optimised for mobile. You will switch between devices seamlessly with one account.
Coverage & Curriculum
StudyDent covers all 16 UK dental schools, with questions curriculum-mapped to each school's BDS programme.
The 16 schools are: King's College London, University of Birmingham, University of Bristol, University of Leeds, University of Manchester, University of Sheffield, Newcastle University, University of Glasgow, University of Aberdeen, University of Dundee, Cardiff University, Queen's University Belfast, University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), University of Plymouth Peninsula, University of Liverpool, and Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. If you cannot find your school, contact us at [email protected].
Yes. StudyDent is also useful for Dental Foundation Year 1 trainees revising core science subjects. Pharmacology, oral medicine, radiograph interpretation, and clinical decision-making are all areas the question bank covers well.
The question bank is primarily designed around the BDS curriculum, but DF1 trainees frequently revisit core pre-clinical and clinical science topics tested in their portfolio and assessments. The anatomy atlas, pharmacology questions, and radiograph practice sections are especially relevant to DF1 year.

StudyDent is the only platform that combines a 10,000+ UK BDS-specific question bank, a 3D head and neck anatomy atlas, timed mock exams, topic-level analytics, and a permanent free tier. All in one place, built exclusively for UK dental students.
Platforms like Passmedicine, BMJ OnExamination, and Qbank are designed for UKMLA and MRCP. They are not mapped to the BDS curriculum and do not include BDS-specific radiograph questions or a 3D anatomy tool. Most dedicated dental revision tools offer fewer than 2,000 questions with no curriculum mapping and no free tier. StudyDent was founded at Cambridge and KCL specifically to fill this gap.
