Question Bank & Content
Over 10,000, across 50+ topic areas. Every question is reviewed for accuracy and has a written explanation — not just the answer, but the reasoning.
Topics include oral biology, pathology, pharmacology, radiology, clinical dentistry, head and neck anatomy, periodontology, dental materials, and more. The bank covers both single-best-answer MCQs and extended matching questions (EMQs) in formats that mirror real BDS exams. New questions are added regularly.
StudyDent covers 50+ topic areas spanning the full BDS curriculum: oral biology, general pathology, oral pathology, pharmacology, dental radiology, periodontology, dental materials, clinical dentistry, head and neck anatomy, human disease, medical emergencies, paediatric dentistry, orthodontics, restorative dentistry, oral surgery, prosthodontics, and more.
Every topic is curriculum-mapped to the UK BDS programme across all 16 dental schools. The question bank covers exactly what BDS exams assess, not generic medical content repurposed for dentistry. Subjects like microbiology, biochemistry, histology, physiology, pain control, and patient management are also included.
Yes. Radiograph interpretation (periapical, bitewing, panoramic, cephalometric) and clinical scenario questions are both included — two of the highest-yield areas in BDS written exams.
Clinical scenario questions test decision-making across prescribing, patient management, and clinical reasoning in a BDS context. The 3D anatomy atlas is particularly useful for anatomy exam prep — every structure includes nerve supply, blood supply, and surgical notes.
StudyDent questions are written and reviewed by dental and science students who have sat the same BDS exams.
This is deliberate. Every explanation is written the way a student would explain it to another student: direct, clear, and focused on exam reasoning rather than textbook-style prose. Questions are reviewed for accuracy before being added to the bank.
Yes. StudyDent covers Years 1–5 BDS. Early-year students benefit most from the oral biology, anatomy, pathology, pharmacology, and dental materials topics — the foundational pre-clinical subjects in Years 1 and 2.
When you sign up, you select your dental school and year. StudyDent uses this to prioritise questions relevant to where you are in your degree. The 3D anatomy atlas is especially useful for Year 1 and Year 2 anatomy modules. Topic-level analytics help you identify weak areas early before assessments.
Features
A fully interactive 3D model with 100+ individually selectable anatomical structures across 7 categories: bones, teeth, muscles, arteries, veins, glands, and cartilage. All annotated with clinical notes, nerve supply, and blood supply.
You can toggle entire categories on or off using layer controls, and click any individual structure to see its clinical annotations. The atlas is built specifically for BDS anatomy revision — written papers and anatomy exam stations. It's on the web app now, and mobile is coming with the iOS and Android apps.
Timed mock exams simulate real BDS exam conditions. You filter by topic, set a time limit, and sit the exam in a distraction-free mode. After you submit, you get a full breakdown by topic.
Mock exams include both MCQ and EMQ formats. After each exam you see accuracy by topic, overall score, time per question, and a full review of every question with explanations. You can re-sit the same topic configuration to track improvement over time.
Native iOS and Android apps are in development. For now, StudyDent works fully in mobile browsers — fast, responsive, built for a phone.
When the apps launch, they'll have full feature parity with the web app: question bank, mock exams, 3D anatomy atlas, performance tracking. One account works across all devices.
Coverage & Curriculum
All 16 UK dental schools. When you sign up, you pick your school and year — the question bank adjusts to match.
The 16 schools are: King's College London, University of Birmingham, University of Bristol, University of Leeds, University of Manchester, University of Sheffield, Newcastle University, University of Glasgow, University of Aberdeen, University of Dundee, Cardiff University, Queen's University Belfast, University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), University of Plymouth Peninsula, University of Liverpool, and Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. Can't find your school? Email [email protected].
Yes. DF1 trainees use StudyDent to revisit core science topics for portfolio assessments. Pharmacology, oral medicine, radiograph interpretation, and clinical decision-making are all covered well.
The question bank is primarily built around the BDS curriculum, but DF1 trainees frequently revisit pre-clinical and clinical science topics in their portfolio work. The anatomy atlas, pharmacology questions, and radiograph practice sections are especially relevant to DF1 year.

Most "dental revision" tools are either med school platforms repurposed for dentistry, or small question banks with no analytics and no free tier. StudyDent is purpose-built for UK BDS — not adapted from something else.
Passmedicine, BMJ OnExamination, and Qbank are designed for UKMLA and MRCP. They're not mapped to the BDS curriculum and don't have BDS-specific radiograph questions or a 3D anatomy tool. Most dedicated dental revision tools have fewer than 2,000 questions, no curriculum mapping, and no free tier. StudyDent was founded at Cambridge and KCL specifically to fill that gap.
